Guitar Hero with DualShock PS2 Controller

By blackmachina

This post if for all those who have break their guitar or those who wants to use their standard PS2 or PSone/PlayStation controller on Guitar Hero games. This could be very useful when you do not have two guitars in your possessions as the games allows you to play co-up, with the other player playing bass or duel.

The keys are as follows:

Green: L2

Red: L1

Yellow: R1

Blue: R2

Orange: X

Analog sticks are used as whammies or whatever it is called.

To access Bonus Songs in Guitar Hero 3(probably Aerosmith edition also), hit Square button and to access the Standard songs again, hit Circle button.

The buttons configurations could be resumed as the “shoulder” buttons of the dualshock controller with the centre colours(Red and Yellow) as the top shoulder buttons and the remaining colours of the Green and Blue on the “edge” being the bottom shoulder buttons plus an additional of the cross(X) button for the Orange colour. However, you cannot continue to hold the buttons while plucking unlike on the original GH guitar controller. Instead you will have to press and release the buttons appropriately.

The game being set on medium difficulty perfectly fits the standard controller buttons config as it uses only four threads(colours) that are being map on the shoulder buttons.(Only during boss fight in Guitar Hero 3, that the Orange colour have to be hit)

It feels really intuitive and easy after playing it for a while. What I did in the beginning was, rotating the controller sideways and i started to hit wrongly the required threads :D as the two colours on the right of the screen seems to have been interchanged but in fact, as explained above, the two top shoulder buttons denotes the centre threads.

I finished Guitar Hero: Rock the 80s(GH2 extension) and Guitar Hero 3 on the medium difficulty level. It was a wonderful experience. There isn’t much game that is fun nowadays(I know do not talk Wii and DDR and Eyetoy) with all those of braindead shouters.

Stay tuned for upcoming Guitar Hero World Tour(aka GH4) with additional instruments like Drums and mics just like RockBand(Harmonix) previously did. Harmonix did three Guitar Hero games namely the first one, the second one and Rock the 80s extension. Harmonix will continue to work with their RockBand series.
