This is a response to the blogger Yashwin Awootar who claimed that i have copied a video from his blog and that he holds the legal copyright of the video.The video in question is Navin Ramgoolam dancing with Lindzy backbotte aired on the National Television, Mauritius Broadcasting Coorporation. Yashwin got the video by filming a television which was airing the Ramgoolam dance.

I have blogged against him because simply he did not give me any other choice to contact him directly!
I forgive him as we should NOT judged a person when he is angry. He claimed that he could not contact me directly but he could have left a comment on my blog. He did left a comment on my blog later(can be considered as contacting me directly since i am receiving the comment by email). I think that by contacting me directly, he surely means that contacting me in private.
he did revealed my name almost entirely(82%) but now will conceal it entirely after we have settled things down.(i’m still waiting by the way).
My arguments are:
A person that enters a cinema and starts to film the movie(which is screening) DOES NOT make that person the LEGAL owner of the movie where he is free to distribute it to the public.
Furthermore, nearly all the CAMS version of the movies available on the internet have voices from audience and the camera man. Does that make the person the legal owner of the video? Why are we not hosting and or even selling those movies? it is ILLEGAL.
Crediting the video is just a matter of courtesy(as one blogger points out). i have credited the video now.
I do not copy videos. I only share links from youtube videos which is the primary purpose of youtube. My way of sharing links may be different from some bloggers. I expected that you to use the right small arrows in the youtube player to get the link. But from now as Yash argued, i will put it outside the video for people to reach the source easily.
The way i have learned referencing at university is that you only have to credit the source where you have obtained the information(my source was youtube and not his blog post). For example if i took some information Book A has xyz info which itself has its source from Book B, you only have to make your reference to Book A and Not Book B. So my references was from youtube only. Plain and simple. The referencing i have learned were Harvard Referencing and Chicago Referencing.

embedding youtube videos IS NOT illegal. If the owner didn’t want people to copy the video, he should have set the EMBED option to off…
Any video having the embed option CAN be used on your blog or website.

yeah, r u right Rikesh. Surely there must be a way to disable the embed video option from Youtube. that email was from wordpress who selected the easiest option as advice.

i already back link the video to his blog. i will keep the video just a couple of days more or else the two posts of mine and the one from Yashvin will be irrelevant, outdated, expired or nonsensed.

having dynamic ips is no excuse, besides, at the exact time he posted that, his ip might not have changed, [say mine, it would change, but for longer periods, since i never get offline due to my servers]…so, you still increased his vulnerability :p … since being curious, i would have liked to know what he’s running as services
